“It's such a great perspective on communication and relationships. The people who genuinely want to grow, improve themselves, and have healthier relationships? I think they would absolutely dive into this.”

I thought I knew how to communicate.

I'm an educator with a degree in Linguistics. For more than twenty-five years, I’ve worked with people to understand how they learn, process information, and make meaning. I thought I knew how to speak clearly and listen with intention.

And then I went through a divorce.

I experienced difficult conversations that seemed to go nowhere. Later, someone helped me recognize something I hadn't been able to see for myself: I was sometimes reacting to what I believed someone meant, rather than what they actually said.

As I began to recognize the filters shaping my own interpretations, I started approaching those conversations differently. I became better at truly listening, asking meaningful questions, and recognizing when my own assumptions were getting in the way of understanding someone else.

That discovery became The Story Gap—a way to look beneath the surface of our conversations and question the stories we tell ourselves about the people we love.
